JOINING WE ARE THE MEN, MVC

We Are The Men are always on the lookout for new members, so if you’d like to apply, we’d love to hear from you.  Simply send us an email at wearethemen@gmail.com, and we’ll send you the dates when we are accepting applications.  You might be wondering if that process involves a formal audition.  It does not (see “Frequently Asked Questions”, below).  You will meet with the director who will ask you to sing some simple scales so that he can decide where your voice best fits within the ensemble.  Of course, if you have a particular song you would like to use instead, we’d love to hear that too, Just bring the accompaniment and we’ll take care of the rest.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. DO I HAVE TO READ MUSIC? No, the ability to read music is not required but a fundamental understanding of pitch and rhythm would be a definite plus.


2. IS ANY COST INVOLVED? We Are The Men provides all music to its members at no cost with the understanding that the music is on loan to the member and must be returned in the same condition as received should the member resign. Annual membership dues, which are used to defray director and accompanist salaries and operating costs are assessed to members annually at a rate of $100.
Members are also responsible for the cost of their concert dress, which is black shoes and socks, gray slacks, white dress shirt
and special Welsh tie (available from the chorus for $25), and navy blue blazer.


3. IS ATTENDANCE AT REHEARSALS/CONCERTS MANDATORY? We expect members to attend rehearsals and concerts as scheduled (usually twice a month for rehearsals). Of course, we recognize that sometimes a rehearsal or concert must be missed, but if
absence becomes habitual, we reserve the right to ask for the member’s resignation and return of the music portfolio.


4. WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I’VE BEEN ACCEPTED? Immediately after the voice placement evaluation.
